4 Things to do if you didn’t get the job

4 Things to do if you didn't get the job

It’s never easy being told you were unsuccessful going for a position that you were super excited for. Make sure you don’t take it personally, because it never is. There are so many factors that contribute to the decision, many of which may not even be your fault and out of your control. As this may seem to be a negative experience, try to turn it into a positive and see it as an opportunity for growth and learning. I am quite a firm believer that everything happens for a reason. Even if you thought it was the perfect job for you, perhaps, isn’t the perfect job for you at all. You never know what is in store for you and it could be just around the corner. To help with your journey, here are 4 things to do if you didn’t get the job.

1). Scream & Shout

And no, I don’t mean scream and shout to the person on the phone giving you the bad news, that’s never a good move. More so, let your emotions out. Getting bad news about being unsuccessful always sucks, even if you didn’t want the job that much. You’re filled with many emotions. Frustrated, disappointed, angry, and even sad. Don’t bottle your emotions, let it all out so this doesn’t impact you, your job search, or any part of the job journey.

2). Seek Feedback

I’ve already touched on at the fact that you being unsuccessful is not necessarily a reflection on you, your capabilities, or anything that you’ve done wrong. For the most part, it probably isn’t you at all. But don’t be afraid to ask for feedback. it’s always important and a great opportunity to understand why you were unsuccessful. It helps us improve and grow.

“There is no failure, only feedback”

3). Never give up

Ok, rejection sucks no matter what. You’ve been unsuccessful, you’ve gotten it out of your system, now it’s time to get back in the game and keep pushing forward. Don’t let rejection get the better of you. You never know what opportunities are around the corner.

“Realize that if a door closed, it’s because what was behind it wasn’t meant for you”

4). Stay Focused

Your dream job is still out there for the taking. The journey isn’t easy, neither is rejection but there will be more before you land what you desire. It’s important to stay focused & motivated to continue your search. Don’t be put off a rejection, and don’t accept a role you’re not truly excited about because you’re drained. Good things come to those who not only wait but to those who deserve it.

“ Always remember that your focus determines your reality”

Anything worth doing in life isn’t easy, or everyone would be doing it, right? The same applies to find your dream job. Let’s be real, when it comes to jobs, most of us will face more rejection than success. But that doesn’t mean we just give up. The good things are worth fighting for. And finding a dream job where you would truly be happy is definitely worth fighting for. Remember, no matter what life throws your way, stay positive, turn your negatives into positives, and keep pushing forward.
