11 Amazing Work Perks That Actually Exist

Work Perks

We all know the better the perks offered by businesses, the more enticing it is for people to join. We recently wrote a blog about the Top 5 work perks people want in Australia but what perks are businesses actually offering their staff around the world? I’m sure the first companies that come to mind are the likes of Google, Facebook, and well, you know, those very well-known brands you hear about but let us tell you, there are plenty of other businesses offering some exciting stuff! If you’re a business owner or a staff member, here are some great ideas and insights into other leaders in various industries to help improve the culture & brand to attract quality talent.

Google

Ok, if it wasn’t that obvious, it’s difficult to walk past Google with the perks they offer. Now, not every business is in a position to offer such perks, but this just gives you an idea as to what is out there in the world.

Perk #1: Free food

While free good is not uncommon these days, most businesses offer free food, lollies, and some other goodies but Google has taken free food to a whole another level by providing an in-house facility where staff can have anything they want. Talk about a hell of a perk. You’ll never have to worry about lunch again!

Perk #2: Free Laundry Day

Yep, you read it correctly. Google offers employees the ability to take their laundry and ensure it gets done, all during work. Adding to the work-life balance, it sure does allow you to have more time to relax and save yourself some money along the way.

Perk #3: Recreational Room

Some value a room filled with games and activities to take your mind off work and refresh. A lot of businesses with decent space do have a room where employees can enjoy themselves, but with resources like Google, they’ve got plenty of options from a pool table to foosball, rock climbing, arcade games, and more!

NetFlix

We all know Netflix, however, they’ve only become known in Australia in recent years. With thousands of employees, what kind of perks do Netflix offer?

Perk #4: Not set working hours

Yep, Netflix doesn’t believe in the traditional 9 am – 5 pm working hours. They allow employees to work whenever they want as long as the job gets done. Isn’t this everyone’s dream?

Perk #5: Free Lunch

Following in Google’s footsteps, Netflix also offers free lunch to its staff. Not a bad perk to have at any business!

Zynga

If you don’t know who Zynga is, their an American gaming development company focused on Social platforms based in San Francisco, California. With a company size estimated to around 2000, want to know what they offer their employees?

Perk #6: Bring pets to work (every day).

Zynga is completely pet friendly and allows employees to bring their dog to work every day. Imagine how difficult it would be to get work done in that place with cute fluff balls running around? But who wouldn’t love it!?

Perk #7: Unlimited Time Off

Similar to Virgin and some other businesses, Zynga offers employees unlimited time off (subject to approval). This means you can enjoy your life that little bit more if the circumstances permit!

Zappos

Surely you’ve all heard of Zappos. The online retail company based in Las Vegas set the benchmark when it comes to staff and culture. So intrigued, Jeff Bezos, CEO of Amazon purchased the company back in 2009. But what do they do that is so appealing?

Perk #8: Concierge services

Sorry? Come again? That’s right. Zappos offers employees concierge services such as shoe shining, dry cleaning pick up, and even as far as car washes and oil changes!

Perk #9: Employee Zollars

What the heck is Zollars? It’s Zappos’s in-house currency. Employees can earn Zollars and spend it on their website to buy some of their cool products! How cool is that!? Though, you better be into your fashion for this to be valuable.

Patagonia

An outdoor clothing company based out of the United States has a perk that many people admire.

Perk #10: On-site Child Care Services

Talk about a weight off your shoulders if you are a parent. Patagonia provides employees with their own on-site child care service to help improve the culture within the organization. With only a 4% turnover every year, we’d agree they’re doing pretty well.

Perk #11: Every second Friday off

Those in Australia may refer to this as an RDO (Rostered day off). This is where employees will work 9-hour days to accumulate a full day’s work in which they can have off. Not a ground-breaking perk but certainly another worth mentioning.

When building a successful culture, businesses need to implement perks that appeal to people. These are some amazing examples of what types of perks are offered by businesses around the world. Do not be disheartened if you’re reading this right now, thinking about the perks that you don’t have. Our goal is to give people an understanding as to what kind of perks exist. While the companies mentioned above are mainly based in America, there is still hope that Australian businesses begin to learn and adopt such strategies and perks to change the perspective on the corporate industry and change their focus to be people-driven.
